Stewards for the Next Generation
Over the past decade, JOE has won dozens of awards and received many certifications
for its efforts to preserve and protect the best of Florida. Recent awards
and certifications include the following:
2007: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation
Commission
welcomed JOE's WindMark Beach as the first member of Florida's Wildlife
Friendly program.
The Council for Sustainable Florida
honored JOE with a Promising Practices Award for its leadership
in this large-scale conservation planning effort.
Firewise Communities USA
welcomed JOE's SummerCamp Beach community as a member of the Firewise
Community Certification Program.
Audubon International
is in the process of certifying each JOE golf course at SouthWood, Camp Creek, St.
Johns and Victoria Park as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.
2006: Audubon of Florida
honored JOE with its first-ever Forest Steward of the Year Award.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection
welcomed JOE's WaterColor Inn as a member of the state's Green Lodging
program.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
honored JOE biologist Jim Moyers with the Red-cockaded Woodpecker Recovery Award
for JOE's leadership in woodpecker recovery efforts.
The Florida Division of Forestry
awarded JOE with a Community Wildfire Protection Plan Certification
for JOE lands in Bay County. The certification was the first in Florida.
Firewise Communities USA
welcomed JOE's RiverCamps on Crooked Creek community as a member
of the Firewise Community Certification Program.
2005: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
honored JOE with a Regional Director's Conservation Award for innovation in protecting
the natural resources of Northwest Florida with the Regional General Permit and
Ecosystem Management Agreement, specifically working with state and federal agencies
on a plan to protect the West Bay and Choctawhatchee Bay watersheds and associated
wetlands.
